the story of the yeovil ukulele club

Who would have thought a flight across the pond would create a musical passion ? In February 2014, after joining her friend at his local ukulele club in Florida, Val just couldn't tear herself away from the intriguing instrument. Her daughter, granddaughters and a handful of friends bought ukuleles and on her return a dozen novices were strumming in her living room. A couple of weeks practising the perfect 'C' chord whilst hitting the high notes, they built up the courage to go public ! An advert in the local paper was all it took, 14 people arrived, each week the numbers grew and the rest is history ! Now averaging a  healthy 55 attendees each week, the club has reached new heights with memorable performances at the Yeovil Show, frequent socials at the Mitre Inn and being a well-known musical act in the county.

Val's initial dream ~ to create a happy club in which people from all walks of life meet, strum and sing-along whilst raising awareness and money for local charities.

Mission, well and truly, accomplished .....
